Andrew Zuckerman is the president of Zuckerman Homes, a South Florida real estate development firm that has been in business for 80 years. Inheriting the mantle from his grandfather and father was nothing but a joy for Zuckerman, who looks forward to working both in the business and with his family. “Every day is different, and you get to touch so many lives. Being a developer gives you the unique opportunity to create entire neighborhoods and communities.”
He took a year at the University of South Florida, but left college in 1976 to go into the business. Having been born into a real estate family, Zuckerman was immersed early on in the hows and whys of development, and always wanted to go into this field. He and his brother, David and Steven, have been working together since 1976 and have made Zuckerman Homes one of the most respected developers around. Zuckerman reads the red-hot South Florida market properly and always maintains a desire to work closely with people. “A good developer has to have the ability to listen and understand. We talk to people and are very hands-on.”
His family is, he says, “very, very, very close-knit,” and he describes it as his No. 1 priority. “I love working with my family. I’m a lucky man. My dad still works here every day… My dad is one of the most wonderful human beings.”
In keeping with that theme of honoring the family, Zuckerman Homes aided hurricane victims in Arcadia, Florida, after the area was decimated by Hurricane Charley in September 2004. One hundred and twenty satchels chockfull of food, clothing, toiletries and other items were collected by Zuckerman Homes. Working with the United Way, the firm delivered the packages to the entire area. “We wanted to do everything we could to help out,” he says.
Zuckerman is married to Tracy and is the father of Ryan, 23, who works at the firm.
