HOMEBUILDER AIDS TRAILER OWNERS

Sun-Sentinel

With millions of dollars’ worth of damage and so many people in parts of the state losing their homes, Broward County residents continue to offer assistance to fellow Floridians.

Zuckerman Homes, a family business with its main office in Coral Springs, constructs homes on both the east and west coasts of Florida. When Hurricane Charley hit, the Zuckermans decided to offer assistance.

“We sent a memo to our employees asking for material items such as water, food, and clothes. We told them we would match what they donated,” said Ryan Zuckerman, vice president of sales and marketing.

They also contacted a real estate agent in Arcadia who knew of a couple of trailer parks that had been badly damaged.

Zuckerman, along with corporate officers and family members, delivered 100 bags filled to the brim with merchandise to the trailer parks about 20 miles south of Arcadia.

“A lot of the people felt badly taking the bags. They were very humble, but half the trailers were blown apart,” he said.

Any donations left over were given to The Salvation Army, he said.
